Taylor Fladgate Single Harvest Tawny Port 1863 1863
Douro Valley, Northern Portugal, PortugalOne of the finest vintages of the 19th century made from fruit grown on pre-phylloxera vines. Sourced from two pipes acquired by Taylor's from a small producer. This is a wonderful example of the quality and ability of tawny ports to age. Mahogany colour with a green olive rim. Big dried fig, toasted walnut, spicy, cedar, dried lemon peel, molasses, toffee, earthy, dried apricot, vanilla and Christmas cake aromas with a just a hint of VA. Full, juicy, fresh acidity with moderate sweetness and warmth but intense. Toffee, coffee, peppery, tobacco, molasses, walnut, butterscotch, dried citrus, stewed prune, apricot and balsamic flavours. Intense and balanced, fresh palate despite a big 240 g/L residual sugar level and 21% alcohol. Very fine and a privilege to drink. To serve slightly chilled.Tasted: 05 July 2014Tasted by: Anthony Gismondi and Stuart TobePrices:BC | $3988.00 | 750ml | estimated |
