Frescobaldi Nipozzano Vecchie Viti Chianti Rufina Riserva 2011

Tuscany, ItalyThe Nipozzano Vecchie Viti Riserva is a 90/10 blend of sangiovese mixed with colorino, malvasia nera and canaiolo. The style is meant to be slightly more feminine with more red fruit character than the Nipozzano Riserva made with merlot. The winemaking is a nod to the past with a fermentation in cement vats and ageing in 3,000L French oak casks. It's a new wine for the Nipozzano estate, made from some of the oldest fruit in the vineyard. Look for a peppery, floral, licorice root, vanilla, black cherry nose with flecks of balsamic, tobacco, and earthy, gamey aromas. Fresh, round, juicy and dry palate with light but smooth tannins. Black cherry, plum, licorice, earthy, tobacco, black olive, smoky, savoury herb flavours. Good finesse and concentration and should improve over the next 3-7 years developing additional complexity. Serve with roasted game birds.Tasted: 23 July 2014Tasted by: Anthony Gismondi and Stuart TobePrices:
