Red apple, lemon peel, brioche, and dough fill a cushy, round palate, with a citrus corset tightening, and a subtle chalky underlay below. The high percentage of chardonnay is the key to its finesse and legendary elegant house style, which sets Taittinger apart from most of the competition at this level. The nose opens with a whiff of smoke and toast over a rush of lemon and white flowers. The current edition pitches a slightly more complex palate, adding to its charm. The bead of bubbles is exquisite, and the creamy, chalky, leesy notes go on and on. Light biscuit, red apple, green apple lead into a lightly earthy core, with a green apple skin texture and bitter citrus kiss which lingers on the finish. Nice freshness here to balance out the dosage, and super consistent (as expected), though would be really nice to know the base year and disgorge date. The high proportion of chardonnay, unique among fine nonvintage champagnes, is what sets this wine apart from so many others. Floral honey, baked pear, strawberry, and citrus draw you into the glass. The attack is elegant and persistent with more of the same. Serve with just about anything. After full MLF, this spends a minimum 3 years on the lees before a dosage of 9 g/l. My bottle was based on 2014; you can see the disgorgement date code engraved in laser on the base of the bottle. Chalk, lemon, green apple, light anise skips along the medium palate, cushioned with meringue and humming with limestone minerality. The finish lingers with lemon pith, welcoming refreshing with another glass. Lovely solo sipping, as well as with food. Their classic, chardonnay driven house style is drawn from nearly 40 crus in the Marne, Sézanne and Aube and with minimum three years on the lees before cellaring in Reims. Full MLF, with a dosage is 9 g/l. In the NV blend the mix is approximately 40 percent chardonnay 45 pinot noir and rest meunier. In every bottle nearly 50 percent of grapes are from owned vineyards. Juicy, bright, lemon-led, with a chalky texture and fresh, brisk rinse of acidity on the finish. This bottle was based on 2014; you can see the disgorgement date engraved in laser on the base of the bottle. There are 5M of this cuvee produced annually.
