Pierre Amadieu Domaine Grand Romane Gigondas 2011

Gigondas, Southern Rhone, Rhone Valley, FranceThe Grand Romane is made with 60 year old vines including mourvèdre that is fermented in a whole cluster carbonic maceration. The wine is aged in a mix of small French oak barriques and 100 hl oak casks to soften the structure and the tannins. Look for smoky, earthy, peppery nose with bright floral/black fruit and dried herbs aromas. The attack is full and somewhat tannic but with fine acidity. Meaty, gamey, black cherry jam, black plum, clove, vanilla, peppery, tobacco flavours. Good fruit and concentration in a young red that needs three to four more years in bottle to fully mature. Very good value for Gigondas and well worth cellaring.Tasted: 08 June 2014Tasted by: Anthony Gismondi and Stuart TobePrices:
