Gabriel Meffre Gigondas Sainte Catherine 2012
Côtes du Rhône, Rhone Valley, FranceAn old vine blend of 55/35/10 grenache, syrah and mourvèdre grown on high ph alkaline calcareous soils. Post fermentation the wine is aged 18 months in barrique of which one third is new. The nose is highly aromatic with lifted fruit and spice notes. The attack is dense with a long, spicy, garrigue undercurrent. This will be best with roasted meats but I would give it seven to 10 years more ageing in bottle for maximum enjoyment. Excellent value.
