Stag's Hollow Renaissance Merlot 2011
Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaA heavily smoked nose, a la first growth Bordeaux, but in this case the wood is American. The smoke and oak gives way to black cherry/plum and liquorice aromas all in a cleaner style than last year. The attack is smooth, the palate round and the tannins chalky and well managed. A bit blousy and older style with the vanilla cherry/chocolate flavours and savoury undercurrent. Needs another one to three years to fully develop but it remains a solid bottle of merlot. There is three percent cabernet sauvignon in the mix.Tasted: 19 April 2014Tasted by: Anthony Gismondi and Stuart TobePrices:BC | $30.00 | 750ml | winery direct and private wine shops |
