Philippe Gimel Saint Jean Du Barroux La Source 2010

Ventoux, Southern Rhone, Rhone Valley, FrancePhilippe Gimel is situated in the northern Vaucluse, Saint Jean du Barroux owns 37 acres of vines in the appellation Ventoux. Gimel comes by way of Châteauneuf du Pape where he worked at Domaine de La Janasse and Château de Beaucastel. The label, like the wine is minimalist. He has eschewed the Ventoux appellation because he aspires to a higher level of wine. The Source is a blend of grenache, carignan, and cinsault. It is an entry level wine that packs a punch. The nose is aromatic and lifted showing some alcohol with dried herbs/garrigue and liquorice notes. The attack is more full than medium bodied with stony, black cherry fruit, dried herbs and tobacco. There enough tannin for another half decade in the bottle. A bit rustic for the moment but it should settle down with time.Tasted: 06 April 2014Tasted by: Anthony Gismondi and Stuart TobePrices:
