Gianni Brunelli Brunello di Montalcino Riserva 2006

Montalcino, Siena, Tuscany, ItalyAlways an impressive wine, the '06 is beginning to grow into its big shoes mixing spicy, plum, peppery fruit with floral, strawberry, smoky liquorice root aromas. With time the supple, elegant, moderately rich palate has begun to assert itself on the mid-palate. More leather, cherry jam, barnyard, meaty, peppery savoury flavours. Still persistent throughout the finish but maturation is tempering this big red's finish. Steak Florentine is the match. The fruit is a mix of two sites including Le Chiuse di Sotto, a 2 ha vineyard below the hill town of Montalcino and the 4.5 ha Podernovone vineyard south of Montalcino.
