The Islander Estate Vineyards The Investigator Cabernet Franc 2006

Kangaroo Island, Fleurieu Peninsula, South Australia, AustraliaJust bowled over by this red wine from Kangaroo Island made by the tireless investigator Jacques Lurton. One suspects he is spending too much time at Cheval Blanc with his cousin. The blend is 90/10 cabernet franc/malbec and it's delicious. It's a funny thing about French/Euro made wine in the New World it seems to reign in the power and muscle and overstatement in favour finesse and charm. Just a wisp of leafiness gives way to perfectly ripe fruit reminiscent of cassis and blackcurrant all in a perfectly balanced red. Super fine-grained tannin mix throughout with a long smooth persistent finished. Elegant and refined in way few Australian red wine are. T-bone steaks are the match or a great piece of hard cheese. Perfectly balanced at eight years it will continue on this line through 2020.Tasted: 22 March 2014Tasted by: Anthony Gismondi and Stuart TobePrices:
