M. Chapoutier Domaine de Bila-Haut Occultum Lapidem Rouge 2011
Côtes du Roussillon Villages, Roussillon, Sud de France, FranceWhat can you say about a wine that so over delivers for the price. Classic stony savoury umami Roussillon with juicy black fruit flecked with black cherry jam, liquorice, pencil lead, curry meaty flavours. You can drink this now but it will hold a decade. Bila Haut is a blend of syrah/grenache and carignan that is aged in 50 per cent vats and 50 per cent casks. Rich and intense but with just enough restraint to make it even more attractive. Roast lamb works at the moment.Tasted: 05 March 2014Tasted by: Anthony Gismondi and Stuart TobePrices:BC | $25.00 | 750ml | speculative listing - Pacific Wines and Spirits |
