La Vinyeta Heus Blanc 2012

Alt Emporda, Empordà, Ampurdain-Costa Brava, Catalunya (Catalonia Cataluña), SpainTo clever by a half is how I would describe the wines of La Vinyeta. The Empordà-based bodega's name is a play on the Catalan words for vineyard and comic strip. The wines are the chapters, and in this case the Heus series, come from the expression Heus aquí una vegada meaning once upon a time. The blend alone excites me: a 47/31/12/6/4/ mix of macabeu, xarel.lo, garnatxa blanca, moscat and malvasia. The macabeu is some sixty years old and the terraced soils are awash in schist and quartz. Can you spell m-i-n-e-r-a-l. Love the fresh attack of this wine, its electricity and floral components and the citrus undercurrents. Very food friendly. Modern, sleek, delicious and barely 12.5 alcohol.Tasted: 26 January 2014Tasted by: Anthony Gismondi and Stuart TobePrices:
