Champagne Taittinger Comtes de Champagne Blanc de Blancs 2006
Champagne, FranceOne of the top wines of the year, again, and still, and same (current) vintage we've been tasting since 2013 - though I've seen the 2007 released in the UK... What a treat to track the evolution of the '06 Comtes, one of my favourite in recent history. Pristine and stunningly so, this graceful wine is showing quite a bit of power in this bottle, with chalky potency, grippy sides, energy and drive. Lovely lemony note and uncharacteristic energy in my bottle, disgorged in late 2017. Comtes is only produced in exceptional years, and spends a minimum of eight years on lees (this bottle was ten). The 2006 was sourced from Chouilly, Cramant, Avize, Le Mesnil, and Le Mesnil sur Oger, though more than half came from Avize and Le Mesnil. Five percent of the Chouilly spent time in 225 Burgundy barrels for added emphasis. This bottle was less gossamer and more intense than normal, though all 2016 will make for brilliant cellaring wines. Iconic.Tasted: 15 October 2018Tasted by: Prices:
Champagne Taittinger Comtes de Champagne Blanc de Blancs 2006
Champagne, FranceOne of the top wines of the year, again, and still, and same (current) vintage we've been tasting since 2013. What a treat to track the evolution of the '06 Comtes, one of our favourite in memory. Pristine and stunning, this graceful wine sets the bar for premium blanc de blancs, with, elegant and finessed fruit all in complete integration with each other. Potent, shimmering vibrancy with chalky, lemon, green apple, pear, brioche, cashew, delete white florals that linger on the very lengthy, streamline palate seasoned only with a dash of sea salt. The intensity has lessened, but the grace has remained, all in that elegant Taittinger style. As said, my favourite Comtes in a while, and one I'll be cellaring.Tasted: 09 December 2017Tasted by: Prices:

Champagne, FranceRetasting this prestige champagne one year later and it is still brilliantly pristine. This stunning blanc de blancs sets the standard for the style, with seemingly effortless, elegant and finessed fruit all in complete integration with each other. Potent, shimmering vibrancy with chalky, lemon, green apple, pear, light brioche, salted cashew, white florals with an endless length. Intense yet graceful, all in that elegant Taittinger style. The Benchmark for premium blanc de blancs.Tasted: 06 December 2016Tasted by: Prices:
Champagne Taittinger Comtes de Champagne Blanc de Blancs 2006
Champagne, FranceA first look at the '06 not yet released in Canada. Wow. Persistent fine beading with an elegant creamy, toasty brioche, baked green apple, light honey and baked pear nose with just a hint of anise. Full, rich, creamy, fine mousse with good concentration and finesse. Baked green apple, pear, lemon, honey, brioche, cashew, floral, peach flavours. Very long, elegant and intense yet lively. Very fine quality and intensity but in that elegant Taittinger style. Drink now or over the next five to eight years.Tasted: 14 December 2013Tasted by: Prices:
