Champagne, FranceKrug Rosé 27ème Édition is a complex blend of 38 wines from 9 different years, the youngest of which is from 2015, while the oldest dates back to 2005. It gets its impeccable pale colour, spiciness, and structure from the 10% macerated pinot noir of the year it is blended. The blend is 57/23/20 pinot noir / chardonnay / pinot meunier, and 55% is reserve wine. Once blended, it all gets 7 years to rest en tirage in the cellar, to pull it all together before it is released. The nose is an ethereal scent of red fruits, rosehips, and pink grapefruit, while the palate is a storm of citrus with a touch of honey and tiny bubbles. Champagne, FranceRosé is back in favour but as you might expect none are built like Krug. The colour is pale, the requisite persistent fizz is tiny. The nose explosively fruity with bits of wild strawberries, puff pastry and white flowers. The palate is fresh and spicy with screamingly dry red fruit flavours woven into its enticing creamy textures as Krug would say" surpassing the notion of vintage. The blend fluctuates between 20-30% chardonnay, 15-20% pinot meunier and 50-55% pinot noir. Krug released its first rosé in 1983, 140 years after they opened for business.
