Quinta do Vale Meão Douro Red 2010
Douro Superior, Douro Valley, Northern Portugal, PortugalThis wine constantly over delivers in the glass although I wouldn't say its undervalued any more at $100 but for Portugal, it clearly astounds. The nose is fragrant with enticing vanilla, black liquorice, pepper, savoury bay leaf and black plum aromas. The attack is rich but elegant and fresh with perfectly managed, fine-grained tannins. Smoke, black licorice, black berry jam, black tea and figs all figure in the flavours. There is fine fruit intensity and concentration that will help this bottle easily age seven to ten years.
