Hillside Merlot Gjoa Vineyard 2010

Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaWinemaker Kathy Malone has been quietly working to refocus the Hillside portfolio to Naramata Bench fruit and to my mind the not too hot and not too cool vineyards seem perfectly suited to merlot. The Gjoa Vineyard merlot is an excellent example of what can be done in Naramata when you let the fruit and the site show through the wine. The structure is tighter and leaner with active acidity, hints of minerality and juicy, stony, red fruit flavours of spiked with plums, smoke and espresso highlights. The tannins are firm and will need three years settle in. Try it now with grilled meats.Tasted: 21 July 2013Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:
