Montalcino, Siena, Tuscany, ItalyThere are eight woman working at Donatella's winery, hence the eight doves on the label joining Il Drago her husband Carlo Gardini. The village of Trequanda sits in south Chianti about 400 meters above sea level. The blend is a 60/20/20 mix of sangiovese grosso / merlot and sagrantino. The sagrantino vines were propagated from the famous vineyards of Caprai across the southern border in Umbria. It's a fine vintage but it is not near ready to drink. Look for spicy floral red fruits with some aggressive mid-palate dryness (sagrantino) with a cedar, cherry tobacco finish. A bit too rustic at the moment.
