Sebastiani Cabernet Sauvignon Cherryblock Old Vine 2008

Sonoma County, California, United StatesCherryblock is the flagship wine at Sebastiani said to be the ultimate interpretation of Sonoma Valley cabernet grown on rocky, volcanic soils. The core of the cabernet comes from both the original old-vine block of estate cabernet and younger vines along with small amounts cabernet, merlot, and malbec from other Sonoma Valley sites sharing similar growing conditions. The 2008 vintage had an erratic set and lower yields: one ton to the acre. Winemaker Mark Lyon puts it on par with 2004 and 2001 for concentration and structure! Look for an inky black colour. Intense ripe plum/berry jam with bits of toasted oak. The palate is rich and warm with peppery, cassis, plum jam flavours and silky but substantial tannin. You can enjoy this wine now with cheese or grilled meat but it will be best in another decade.Tasted: 07 March 2013Tasted by: Anthony Gismondi and Stuart TobePrices:
