Ramos Pinto RP. LBV Late Bottled Vintage Port 2008
Douro Valley, Northern Portugal, PortugalAt a basic level late-bottled vintage port is a single-vintage blend that has been aged four to six years in oak casks, versus the 24 months given vintage port before bottling. The extra time in wood mellows the ferocious character of spirity young port so that it's perfectly drinkable when released under an LBV desigantion. The '08 RP LBV is a 50/45 5 blend of touriga nacional, touriga franca and sousão. Look for a grapey figgy black fruit entry with a strong violet/mineral undercurrent. Fresh dry and firm this wine is showing some promising vintage port attributes despite it station.
