Barda Pinot Noir 2011
Patagonia, ArgentinaI re-tasted this wine recently and enjoyed a much better bottle than what I had encountered earlier this year. Barda is made with mostly 20-year-old fruit all hand harvested before maceration and fermentation in small cement tanks for some 17 days before it is age d French oak barrels for 11 months. The new bottle was definitely more expressive (pinot-wise) with much cleaner sweet fruit characters mixed with bits of compost, forest floor, pepper and strawberry aromas. The attack is dry and round with mouth-filling pinot texture. The fruit as mentioned much better offering ripe strawberries compost with just a hint of balsamic. Try this with duck to best effect.
