Le Mortelle Poggio Alla Nane 2009

Maremma, Tuscany, ItalyThe single cru at Moretelle is a 60/40 mix of cabernet franc and cabernet sauvignon. The property is located in the heart of the lower Tuscan Maremma, in the province of Grosseto, at approximately five miles from the town of Castiglione della Pescaia. It extends over a total of 675 acres (270 hectares), 400 of which are planted to vines. Poggio Alla Nana is fermented in stainless steel using natural yeast before spending 14 months in wood and almost a year in bottle. I love the fragrance here; you can smell the Tyrrhenian Sea. The palate is a complex mix of savoury red and dark fruits flecked with liquorice, cedar and tobacco. The finish is long and persistent but the tannins are all fine-grained and slippery. I tasted this first without food and finished it with Bistecca Fiorentini. This is a wine to watch.Tasted: 06 December 2012Tasted by: Anthony Gismondi and Stuart TobePrices:
