Amizade Mencia Monterrei 2010

RĂas Baixas, Galicia, SpainIt's a shame there isn't more mencia in the market instead of the steady stream of crappy sweet reds retailer insist on shoving down our throats. The style is bright and vibrant, the fruit spicy and alive with fresh red fruit/raspberry flavours. There's a pinch of smoky minerality mid-palate that projects the wine onto the back of the palate with ease. It's a bit of grenache /Beaujolais cross that you can't stop sipping. The grapes are farmed organically in the Monterrei, DO in Galicia. Pick this up in The Market at Lakeway Bellingham for $11.29 before a 10 per cent discount for buying four bottles.Tasted: 26 December 2012Tasted by: Anthony Gismondi and Stuart TobePrices:
