Wynns Coonawarra Estate Michael Shiraz 2008

Coonawarra, South Australia, AustraliaThe Michael shiraz was always the best-of-vintage two barrels bottled separately at Wynns and named after proprietor David Wynn's son in the early 1950s. It was revived in 1990 vintage under Peter Douglas and continues today under Sue Hodder and her team. The 2008 was aged for 14 months in French oak of which 60 per cent is new. It was the biggest darkest wine of my on-site tasting. The nose is a mix of cedar and red fruits flecked with blueberry and red liquorice. A pre-clones massal selection helps to build complexity and length without alcohol leaving this shiraz to express its Coonawarra terroir without getting bigger and hotter. Love the density and succulent fruit here. Rich, smooth and seamless this will keep for decades.Tasted: 11 November 2012Tasted by: Anthony Gismondi and Stuart TobePrices:
