Valle del Maule, Region del Valle Central, ChileJose Manuel Ortega dramatically altered the mix in the 2010 shifting to 50/30/10/10 cabernet franc, carignan, cabernet sauvignon and merlot hoping to up the texture and weight of the wine while lowering the fruit and an enhancing more earthy tones. The vines are mix of ages from 40 to 100 years old that are cane pruned and get limited flood irrigation. Indeed the wine is firmer and drier, and perhaps even more food friendly relying on spice, mineral and inviting chalky dusty tannins to attract.
