O. Fournier Red Blend 2008

Valle del Maule, Region del Valle Central, ChileThe Chilean O. Fournier red is made from ungrafted and unirrigated, cabernet franc, cabernet sauvignon and carignan grown on sandy soils and yielded a mere 20 hl/ha are at the heart of this blend. The franc was planted around 1890 while the cabernet sauvignon is 100-years old; the carignan is 60-years old. The blend in 08 is 80 percent franc with then ten percent each of sauvignon and carignan and all of it spends 17 months in new French oak. The wine is strikingly lively on the nose and the palate with a fresh style you could call electric. The entry round the textures smooth and chalky, the aromas are sauvage-like with floral/mineral notes. The flavours are spicy, mixing more dried herbs with earthy black fruit. Again the O. Fournier power with elegance is evident. Age this for a decade. Only 2-4 000 bottles are made each year. Expected release in 2013.Tasted: 02 April 2012Tasted by: Anthony Gismondi and Stuart TobePrices:
