Ventisquero Vertice Syrah Carmenere 2007

Apalta Valley, Santa Cruz, Valle del Colchagua, Valle del Rapel, Region del Valle Central, ChileA wine made in conjunction with John Duval of Penfolds fame and now John Duval Wines in the Barossa Valley. Very spicy, prune, coffee, barnyard, sweaty saddle, gamey, blackberry, smoky, tobacco, licorice root, olive, compost, sappy, curry, menthol aromas. Round, dry, full, somewhat tannic, juicy, tart palate. Big barnyard, sweaty saddle, meaty, coffee, vanilla, cassis, blackberry jam, menthol, tobacco, carrot top, earthy flavours. A bit rustic and gritty but with good balance. It finishes a bit green and oaky with some bretty notes. Age another two years for best results. Aged 18 months in new French oak, perhaps a bit much. The blend is 45 syrah and 55 carmenère.Tasted: 05 March 2012Tasted by: Anthony Gismondi and Stuart TobePrices:
