Marlborough, South Island, New ZealandThe DP chardonnay spends 18 months in small oak barrels but only a small portion is new. Hallelujah we say. Cool climate chardonnay cannot tolerate gobs of new oak. The flavours run the gamut of toasted nuts and citrus to ripe grapefruit to equally ripe strawberries all over chalky, yeasty, mineral background but with restraint. Very fine quality in a white Burgundy style. Try this with shellfish and assorted delicate seafood dishes.
