Catena Alta Chardonnay 2008

Tupungato, Valle de Uco, Tunuyán, Central Region, Mendoza, ArgentinaOh my, the Alta Chardonnay is amazing. Made lovingly with 100 per cent high altitude fruit (4,800'+) grown at the Adrianna vineyard in Tupungato this chardonnay should a scare the French. It's 100 per cent barrel fermented in French oak and while it's rich and mouth-filling the oak is not an issue. What you will love is the mealy, leesy, broioche that lays under ripe, red apple fruit that is persistent from front to back. Flecks of spice and butter and apricots only complex the slightly sweet finish. Fabulous value here in a terrific modern chardonnay with an Old World twist. This should be a wine list standard wherever the food is smart. Super value.Tasted: 15 February 2012Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:
