M. Chapoutier La Mordorée Côtes Rôtie 2008

Côte Rôtie, Northern Rhone, Rhone Valley, FranceOpen spicy, aromatic nose with curry, garrigue, saddle leather, cedar, menthol, roasted pepper, black cherry, tapenade, white pepper and herb aromas. Round, dry, elegant but structured palate with light tannins. Intense smoky, meaty, gamey, garrigue, curry spice, olive, resin and plum flavours with a saddle leather and menthol finish. Pheasant anyone? This is still a bit chewy and dry, will need 5-10 years. One hundred per cent syrah, average age 60 years, grown over chlorite and ferruginous mica-schist blending in loess depressions and earth veins on the border of the "Côte Blonde."Tasted: 28 December 2011Tasted by: Anthony Gismondi and Stuart TobePrices:
