Vina Gravonia Crianza Blanco 2000
Rioja Alta, Rioja, SpainA curiosity for most wine drinkers but this 100 percent old vine viura that spends four long years in old 225 litre American oak barrels and then four years in bottle certainly qualifies as quirky. The nose is slightly oxidative with nutty, old wood and mineral tones and lime zest. The attack is bone dry and tart with a strong lemon mineral undertone. There is nothing modern about this white wine but perhaps that is its charm. Complex old white wine you have to taste to believe.
