Speri Valpolicella Classico Superiore Sant' Urbano 2001

Pedemonte Valpolicella, Verona, Veneto, ItalyClean and fragrant the colour gives indication this wine is ten years old. Expect a strong fragrant red fruit nose form this 70/25/5 blend of corvina Veronese/rondinella/molinara with 5 percent local varieties. The 19 hectare Monte Sant 'Urbano estate is at the heart of this wine and sits some 280 to 350 metres above sea level at Fumane. The grapes are dried approximately three weeks. Look for a wealth of dried cherry fruit with smoky, mushroom, cedar and earth undertones on the nose. The attack is firm and dry with obvious red fruit flavours, fine acidity and subtle tannins. Just coming into its own with a decade in the bottle. Try this with pecorino cheese or an osso buco dish to best effect.Tasted: 10 October 2011Tasted by: Anthony Gismondi and Stuart TobePrices:
