La Vendimia 2009
Rioja Baja., Rioja, SpainLa Vendimia or "the harvest" is famed winemaker Alvaro Palacios' ode to joven- Spanish wine that spend less than six months in wood. The fruit is a 50/50 mix of garnacha and tempranillo that with the exception of two growers is grown organically and will soon be certified as his vineyards mature. The small non-irrigated vines are 10 to 40-years old and the wine is aged in 80/20 French and American oak barrels whose average age is three years old. In 2009 after a wet winter and spring, magic spread across the Rioja where not another drop of rain fell. Its intense pure, aromatic, fruit flecked with violets and blood oranges will stun you. Should be on every wine list in the city. Tasted: 06 April 2011Tasted by: Anthony Gismondi and Stuart TobePrices:BC | $27.00 | 750ml | Everything Wine |
