Domaine Christian Moreau Chablis 1er Cru Vaillon Cuvée Guy Moreau 2008

Chablis, Burgundy, FranceLots of lime, spicy, green apple skin, oyster shell, butter, lees, light garlic, grassy, pear aromas with a touch of vanilla. Fresh, crisp, dry, juicy, slightly austere palate with oyster liqueur, lime, green apple skin, lees, chalky, vanilla, garlic, honey, lemon flavours. A bit more austere but more intense on the finish than the regular cuvee. This will benefit from 2-4 years bottle age. Great acidity and fruit balance for aging. The Guy Moreau cuvée is made from a parcel of vines planted by Guy Moreau in 1934. The vinification and ageing is done in a 60/40 mix of stainless steel vats and barrels where 90 percent of the wood is one, two or three years old all aged for six months in wood.Prices:

Haywire Pinot Gris Switchback Vineyard Clone 52 2009

Summerland Bench, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaThe first release of this single-vineyard, single clone (clone 52) pinot gris made from four year old vines signals the start of new beginning for the valley's so-called signature varietal. Haywire is a study in subtlety, nuance. It is or should I say will be a vineyard wine all its life eschewing its grape variety for its terroir. Expect a very subtle nose with hints of green apple skin, green peach and floral, grassy, lemon oil and nettle aromas. The palate is similarly dry and delicate palate with a definite austerity. Not a lot flavour intensity although it's difficult to expect much more in year one, for a wine made off-site. A winery is being built now and year one winemaker Michael Bartier (Road 13) will give way to Mark Wendenburg (ex-Sumac Ridge) in year two. World renowned wine consultant Alberto Antonini will work with the 2010 blend in November and will institute a new pruning and growing regime at Switchback all of which should further clarify the palate and the Okanagan story. A great beginning.Prices:
