Champagne Lanson Le Rosé Brut Rosé NV
Champagne, FranceLanson has been making this friendly rosé since the 1950s. The current incarnation blends 53% pinot noir, 32% chardonnay, and 15% pinot meunier, with a 7% splash of still pinot noir and pinot meunier for colour. As per house style, no malolactic fermentation is employed in the primary ferment. There are 35% reserve wines in the mix, and the blend comes from 100 different crus, 50% of which are GC and 1er. Based on 2016, my bottle was disgorged in May 2022 with eight g/L. Bright and straight, as per the house style, carrying meringue, light toast, and bright cherry across a lightly creamy/doughy base, subtly seasoned with stony spice. Champagne, FranceThe latest Lanson pink is 53/32/7 mix of pinot noir, chardonnay, and pinot meunier, topped with seven percent still pinot noir and pinot meunier to get its attractive pink colour just right. There is no acid-softening malolactic fermentation to keep it all fresh during the primary ferment. It has 35% reserve wines in the mix to maintain the house style easily. The nose is an enticing yeasty, doughy affair with subtle red fruit permeating the wine and an active citrus note from front to back. It has an even broader appeal at 8 grams per litre of sugar, bringing the balance to perfection. This would be fun before, after, and during dinner. My bottle was based on 2016 and was disgorged in October 2021 with eight g/L. Doughy and toasty cherry brioche, raspberry, and red apple fill the cushy core, with perfumed cherry blossoms adding allure to the cinnamon-spiced finish. There's a bright lemon thread throughout, driving this to the humming finish. Champagne, FranceRosé Champagne is hot, but it is old news at Lanson where they have been making a stylish, delicate pale pink bubble since the 1950s, which is one of the first rosé releases in Champagne. The colour is pink salmon courtesy of the 53/32/13 pinot noir, chardonnay, and pinot meunier with a small amount of still pinot noir from Bouzy for colour. Expect a whiff of toasted lees and biscuit, a reflection of 30% reserve wine, combined with mineral, citrus, baked pear. There is a clear freshness thanks to a no malolactic Lanson policy. There is plenty more to entice on the palate, including nutty, toasty, mineral, cherry streaked with citrus and green apple. An impressive, dry, crisp, elegant rosé that doesn’t quit in the glass. Champagne, FranceRosé bubbles are in, but Lanson has been making this stylish, delicate wine since the 1950s, one of the first ever Rosés in Champagne. Its enticing pale salmon colour is a result of the assemblage or blending of 55/30/15 pinot noir, chardonnay and pinot meunier with a small amount of still pinot noir from Bouzy. Expect a whiff of toasted lees and biscuit with baked pear, mineral, citrus notes and what I can say now is the freshness you get from Lanson’s no malo wines. The flavours are a riot of nutty, toasty, mineral, cherry, citrus and green apple flavours. Dry, crisp, but with fine elegance.
