Castaño La Casona Monastrell 2007
Yecla, Valencia and Murcia, SpainOkay here you go super cheap and tasty. Look for black cherry, pepper, floral, chocolate notes with savoury aromas. The entry is soft and supple with a pinch of rustic tannins but with good body. Chocolate, peppery, dried herbs, black cherry, fig and liquorice root flavours impress for the price. Good fruit and intensity makes this a great value and under screw cap means it every bottle will likely be as sound as this one. Believe it or not the wine is dry-farmed, (no irrigation and that keeps yields naturally low) and the vines are 40 to 60 years old. All for $9.50. Back up the truck and load up.Tasted: 18 March 2010Tasted by: Anthony Gismondi and Stuart TobePrices:BC | $9.50 | 750ml | specialty listing |
