Frog's Leap Chardonnay 2008

Rutherford, Napa Valley, California, United StatesThe less is more theme is a big part of the Frog's Leap chardonnay mantra along with a strong emphasis on earth and less on fruit. Just under 10,000 cases are made each year and amazingly it is picked, more or less, at 23 brix spawning a finished alcohol in the low thirteen per cent range. About 75 per cent of the wine is aged in French barrels although less than 25 of that is new wood. Winemaker John Williams allows his chardonnay to express its Carneros site seeking harmony of fruit and acidity with freshness and length all the while expressing a pureness of peach and melon fruit with an undercurrent of minerality complete with a touch of chalkiness. A terrific food wine for modern West Coast cuisine.Tasted: 19 December 2009Tasted by: Anthony Gismondi and Stuart TobePrices:
