Boutari Vin Santo 2004

Aegean Islands - Santorini, The Islands, GreeceA long story and history here but according to the Greeks: sweet wines from Santorini made from sun-dried grapes are commonly called Vinsanto or Vissanto. The wines pre-date the Italian version labelled Vin Santo and have been made in Santorini since Byzantine times. The name Vin Santo does not mean "holy wine", but rather Vino di Santorini (wine from Santorini). Made mostly from partially sun dried assyrtiko grapes. Deep brick-amber colour with a green edge. Very lifted, spicy, dried peach, floral, rancio, nutty, citrus aromas. Rich, round and moderately sweet at 18% residual but very fresh acidity. Somewhat tannic with big dried apricot, pear, nutty, lemon, spicy, floral, nectarine, rancio flavours. Very unique and pretty brisk, can age further and will shed the astringency. Try with fruit tart or a pear torte. Only 12% alcohol.Tasted: 08 November 2009Tasted by: Anthony Gismondi and Stuart TobePrices:
