Felton Road Pinot Noir Cornish Point Vineyard 2007

Central Otago, South Island, New ZealandSmoky, savoury, spicy, tea, tobacco, barnyard, black cherry jam, vanilla, worsteshire, plum, orange peel, carrot top and thyme aromas. Rich, ripe, round, warm and full palate with supple tannins. Big black cherry, plum, smoky, savoury, vanilla, orange, thyme, black tea, mint and coffee flavours. A bit more oak showing with sweeter, darker fruit but more savoury than the Calvert and slightly more forward. The winery explains the site as: The vineyard started producing with the 2003 vintage, and has been developed by winery owner Nigel Greening to become a pinot noir laboratory. Twenty-four blocks are planted to 18 different combinations of pinot noir clones and rootstocks, each carefully matched to the subtle soil and aspect changes throughout the site. Rows are orientated to 345 degrees, so the vines receive an extra hour of morning sun and one less hour of hot afternoon sun. A row width of seven feet and vine spacing of four feet results in 1,635 vines per acre.Tasted: 27 October 2009Tasted by: Stuart TobePrices:
