Ridge Santa Cruz Mountain Estate Chardonnay 2006

Santa Cruz Mountains, San Francisco Bay, California, United StatesAt Ridge, the Santa Cruz Mountains appellation speaks to fruit grown on its famous Monte Bello Ridge. Washed in cool air and standing amid a limestone base Ridge quietly is cranking out some serious chardonnay. The first vines were planted mid-slope in the forties although they have long since been replaced slightly further down the hill. The nose is a delight of tropical fruit notes: pineapple, peach and pear with bits of vanilla, spicy lees and floral notes. Ripe and round the palate is lengthy yet elegant with bright notes of honey, citrus, spicy lees, guava, orange and earthy, mineral and baked apple and brioche. Not as tight as 2005 but delicious nonetheless.Tasted: 23 September 2008Tasted by: Anthony Gismondi and Stuart TobePrices:
