De Martino Legado Reserva Syrah 2005

Choapa Valley, Coquimbo Region, ChileReally, another exciting syrah from Chile this time from the Choapa Valley in the Coquimbo region in northern Chile. It's the narrowest section of Chile, with just 90 km (56 mi) between the Pacific Ocean and the Argentine border in the Andes Mountains. The vineyards are planted 825 meters (2,707 feet) above sea level in sandy-clay soils dotted with volcanic rock with stones that have not decomposed. The nose is a mix of dried herbs and spice with notes of cigar. It's big rich and dry on the palate with black fruit and tar. Definitely more in the Rhone style with meaty gamey notes in the finish. Well done. Should improve in the bottle as well.Tasted: 08 May 2008Tasted by: Anthony Gismondi and Stuart TobePrices:
