Frescobaldi Ripe al Convento Brunello di Montalcino Riserva 2001

Tuscany, ItalyThis wine finishes fermentation in new French oak barriques for 9-12 months then goes into 50 hL botti. Smoky, peppery, animal, meaty, black cherry, chocolate, resin, licorice root, saddle leather aromas with a touch of wax and tobacco. Rich, ripe, round and dry with supple but grainy tannins. Warm with very good acidity structure. Big black cherry jam, blackberry, coffee, peppery, resin, licorice root, violet, tobacco and leather flavours with orange peel, vanilla, cardamom and garrigue notes on the finish. Very young, concentrated, chewy finish. This has length and mid-palate but needs 5-7 years to fully round out. Very good potential here.Tasted: 14 November 2007Tasted by: Anthony Gismondi and Stuart TobePrices:
