Tinhorn Creek Oldfield's Collection Syrah 2004
Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaThey only made three barrels of the OC 2004 Syrah, the first official vintage and one of those was blended into the OC merlot to increase its density and weight. Like most Okanagan syrah we encounter these young vine reds are usually riper and better tasting their cabernet or merlot kin. It was aged 14 months in new French oak - 42 cases were bottled by hand on May 17, 2006. I like the style, its syrah not shiraz if you know what I mean. Look for youthful, peppery, meaty, syrah fruit reminiscent of the Northern Rhone. No doubt this will improve every vintage out. I'm told this wine is long since sold out.Prices:BC | $28.00 | 750ml |

Mission Hill Family Estate Oculus 2004
Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaThe latest Mission Hill 2004 Oculus has just been released at a formidable $70. It is the best yet and likely only the start of a series of vintages that will benefit from the most recent round of massive investments the winery. At 74 percent merlot it has the enticing 'drink-me' factor that earlier editions lack along with plenty of cedar cassis and savoury black fruit undertones. It's young and will need time but at this price it should be available for a bit.Prices:BC | $72.00 | 750ml |

De Bortoli Noble One Botrytis Semillon 2004
AustraliaNoble One continues to impress one vintage short of its 25th anniversary. The 2004 has undergone two important changes: the switch to screwcap (for those markets who want it) and the addition of 20 per cent un-oaked juice to the final blend. The result is anew level of aromatics that in a sense has allowed Noble One to trade its some mid-palate weight for stunning vibrancy in the mouth. We love the big apricot, botrytised nectarine fruit, the layered spicy, orange marmalade flavours streaked with creamy, smoky, vanilla flecks. The finish is a crisp as ever and clean with plenty of honey, dried apricot, baked apple, melon, grapefruit and butter with a creamy vanilla, toasty, fig finish This should age gracefully for decades under screwcap. Beringer Viognier 2004
Napa Valley, California, United StatesOpen heavy perfumed nose of honey, quince and citrus. Big and rich on entry it actually offers sup some finesse and freshness on the mid-palate and finish. Look for spicy dried honey, mineral and exotic floral fruit with flecks of orange. Should be a fine match with seafood. We need younger vintages of this wine to really appreciate its style. Prices:BC | $25.00 | 750ml |
