Castiglione Falletto, Cuneo, Piedmont, ItalyNormally made from the top portion of the Pernanno vineyard, this is a blend of the regular portion from lower down and the top portion to balance the hot year's effects. The result was better acidity balance, finesse and tannin ripeness. A bit close with balsamic, spicy, tar, floral, strawberry jam aromas with some coffee and vanilla from the 50% new oak barriques. Ripe and rich with round tannins on the palate with good elegance and acidity. Spicy, tar, coffee, balsamic, black cherry, strawberry and licorice flavours with some smoky vanilla on the finish. Very good finesse and concentration but a bit more forward than normal. Fine effort if a bit warm. Give it 3-7 years.

Castiglione Falletto, Cuneo, Piedmont, ItalyThe '99 regular Barolo is considered the best made at the property since 1989 and 1996. At 3.2 tons to the acre the concentration and weight is substantial but there is an elegance and fruit character that gives it very modern appeal. Solid and should improve over the next five to seven years.Tasted: 07 February 2003Tasted by: Prices:
