Penedès, Catalunya (Catalonia Cataluña), SpainThe Mas Irene has a larger merlot component, some 80 per cent versus the Mas Elena at 54 per cent. You feel it immediately on the nose with the hit of black fruit and especially in the mouth where it has a softness and a roundness that makes me think a bit of Pomerol. The fruit is savoury with an inviting, earthy, terroir demeanour. Très elegant and very much in the Bordelais style.
