Mazzei Castello di Fonterutoli Chianti Classico 2001

Tuscany, ItalyDeep cherry colour. Big smoky, spicy, coffee, peppery, gamey, cigar nose with black cherry jam, clove and a touch of saddle leather. Dry, round, elegant style with light, grainy supple tannins. Nice peppery, black cherry, licorice, spicy, mocha, peppery, cassis and black olive flavours with a tobacco, coffee, leather finish. Good finesse with slightly tight tannins but try now with grilled meats or stews, but will improve over the next 2-5 years. Fine effort from a fine vintage.Tasted: 21 August 2006Tasted by: Anthony Gismondi and Stuart TobePrices:
