Torres Gran Coronas Reserva Cabernet Sauvignon 2001

Penedès, Catalunya (Catalonia Cataluña), SpainTorres and the Coronas label are well know to even the casual Spanish wine drinker but the Gran Coronas Cabernet Sauvignon Reserva is a jump up in weight and style and worth the detour. Gran Cornas was originally known in Canada as Don Miguel (the monopoly did not want anyone to confuse it with the runaway success of the bull-toting Coronas label) is elegant red wine with a structure and style rarely seen in the New World, today. The blend is 85/15 cabernet sauvignon and tempranillo and it's all estate grown fruit. The nose projects a fragrant juicy cassis, black olive, tobacco and vanilla nose that is carried thorough on the palate with just a modicum of toasted oak and chocolate. Again, wine for a variety of foods. Love the integration of fruit and alcohol.Tasted: 30 May 2006Tasted by: Anthony Gismondi and Stuart TobePrices:
