Jean Leon Gran Reserva 1997

Penedès, Catalunya (Catalonia Cataluña), SpainThe "Jean Leon" pago or vineyard is a respectable 150 ha of land (of which 100 is arable) that was planted in 1969 to cabernet sauvignon, cabernet franc, merlot and chardonnay, all originating from cuttings of Lafite-Rothschild, La Lagune and Corton Charlemagne. In 1997 the Jean Leon Gran Reserva benefits from a shift to more French oak. The nose shows smoky saddle leather with dark fruit, meaty, cassis, tapenase aromas with some spice, earth and dried leaves. Already showing some fine bottle nuances. On the palate it is fresh and well structured with dark fruit and earthy leathery undertones with some cedar, black olive and cassis. It's 100% Cabernet Sauvignon selected off the "La Scala" block. The finish is long with hints of cocoa and tobacco.Tasted: 30 May 2006Tasted by: Anthony Gismondi and Stuart TobePrices:
