Doña Paula Estate Cabernet Sauvignon 2004
Ugarteche District, Luján de Cuyo, Northern Region, Mendoza, ArgentinaThis wine consistently opens with a peppery nose sprinkled with hints of barnyard, tobacco, cassis jam and perhaps the signature savoury Argentine notes of black olive and black berry. Somewhat reminiscent of a ripe Bordeaux from Pauillac. The entry is tight, even astringent with big cassis jam, peppery, black berry, licorice and tobacco flavours. The finish mixes savoury coffee vanilla and leather. Young, long and a bit tannic but will repay 3-5 years ageing in the bottle, or do as the Argentines do and serve it now with grilled beef. Good value here.Tasted: 15 February 2006Tasted by: Anthony Gismondi and Stuart TobePrices:BC | $21.50 | 750ml | specialty listing |
