Torbreck The Steading 2002
Barossa Valley, South Australia, AustraliaThe Steading blends 60% grenache, 20% mataro and 20% shiraz and is Powell's "ode to the great old vines, planted at the turn of the last century that survived the vine-pull scheme of the 1980's." Look for a pronounced spicy, pencil lead nose with orange peel, licorice root, olive, smoky, cherry jam aromas. A bit drier than Juveniles but supple and round. Spicy, gamey, olive, black cherry, orange, spicy, savoury, mocha, tobacco flavours. A bit hot with a touch of dryer acidity on the finish but elegant. Oz style Châteauneuf-du-Pape.
