Central Otago, South Island, New ZealandCornish Point vineyard is "planned as a Pinot Noir "laboratory". It has been divided into 25 blocks, each sized to supply a single 3 tonne fermenting tank." All but one block is planted to pinot noir in wide variety of clone types and rootstocks: 16 different combinations in all, with rootstocks matched to changing soil structure. Look for a super spicy carrot top nose streaked with ripe pinot fruit and savoury notes. The fruit is black cherries spiked with savoury poultry spice.
