McWilliam's of Coonawarra Stentiford's Old Vine Shiraz 2000

Coonawarra, South Australia, AustraliaThis super-premium Shiraz is sourced entirely from the original, 111 year-old vines on the acclaimed Laira Vineyard, and is named after Captain Stentiford, the English sea captain who established the vineyard in 1893. Look for big coffee, blackberry jam and licorice aromas streaked with saddle leather, pepper cedar, vanilla and mint. It is ripe, rich, round and dry with fine-grained tannins. An elegant style with elevated acidity and lots of vanilla, toasty oak, cedar, black cherry, rootsy licorice flavours. Nice peppery, tobacco, roasted pepper finish. Not a blockbuster style but has Coonawarra finesse. Will improve over the next 3-5 years.Tasted: 30 June 2005Tasted by: Anthony Gismondi and Stuart TobePrices:
